Thanks! I am a little nervous about taking it because of the rash side effect. I hav e had allergic reaction to sulfa antibotics before but it has been a long time ago so hoping this will be ok for me. |

Well thats why they start you on such a low dose and move up slowly. If a rash occurs at all, tell your doctor immediatly and stop taking it. They'll be able to stop it before it goes far. |

thats what my pdoc has started me on... im figuring it will be best to do in the evening incase of dizzy/drowsiness. so this was a good reassurance. im a little worried about side effects and cost if i dont have insurance...but we'll see how it goes. |

I'm taking Lamictal in the morning and in the evening and have experienced no drowsiness in the morning what so ever. If you start Lamictal out in small doses you don't have to worry about the rash side effect, just as long as you start off very slowly. |

I have no side affects and it does not make me the least bit sleepy (except the first day or two of a dosage change--after that, no problems) As far as taking in morning or night, be sure to take it as your doctor directs--my doctor has me take some in the morning and a larger dose in the evening--the evening dose is larger and is supposed to help me become sleepy earlier in the evening--but that hasn't happened either. I see my doctor again in January to see if the dose will be increased or not. Sleep is important for maintaining a normal mood--since I don't get tired early enough I tend to stay up too late, then don't get enough sleep and, ultimately, my mood crashes and burns. Be sure you tell your doctor how it makes you feel, any side affects and any other concerns you have about the medication. Hope you are successful with this medication--it works well for most people. ![]() Medications for December 2009

im allergic to sulfa as well. i take 100mg in the morning and 200 at night of lamictal. i havent experienced any drowsy or rash side effects. i think the time of day depends on what other medicine it is complementing. |

I take lamictal in the morning...in the beginning drowsiness is common but eventually wears off. i was very worried about the rash side effect but fortunately didn't get it. didn't have any bad ones on the lamictal. actually my only side effects came with my other meds. Ditto on the zero side affects; as you'll see below I take it in the morning & at night; pdoc didn't want so much in my system at once. Stick to what your doctor says to do and if you have issues, go back to him or her. Current medications as of 03-12-2010

i take 300mg of lamictal in the AM & 300mg in the PM. i`m also really allergic to sulfa but never got a rash from the lamic. it makes me drowsy, but more of a low energy type of fatigue as opposed to a cannot operate heavy machinery type. it works really well for me... curbs impulses to self-injure most of the time |

I have been taking Lamictal for awhile now. It doesn't really matter when you take it as long as it is the same time every day. Personally, the side effect of drowsiness has not gone away. My question is does anyone else have memory problems associated with it? |

i read up on that after reading your post, because i had never heard of that side effect before... apparently it has affected a lot of people. i asked my dr. about it & he said it can happen & is usually dose dependent & if you reduce your dose it usually goes away. i haven't noticed any memory problems other than occasional forgetfulness... but i've been on it 10 years, so i asked my dr. what the long term effects are of lamictal, and he said there are none that they know of. i hope he's right. |

Well...what's the side effect of not being on it? For me it's the only drug that's worked as a mood stabilizer & it's the most popular because it DOES work. I've experienced a bit of memory outage here and there but only in that I can't think of something immediately. Of course these drugs are going to have an effect(s) on our brains. Sometimes the side effect is a trade up, though. :-/ |

I'm trying to figure out how I ever got up to 450 mg a day. I started having fatigue and headaches. I am now down to 150 mg. After I got off it for a bit, I noticed I had more energy in general or was not as tired and foggy mentally. So I am now taking 150 at night and will not do an increase again after four years of this med. Otherwise I find it tolerable. I think a lot people worry too much about the rash. If you get it you stop and it goes away. Oh, yeah. I have memory problems too on it. |
