Hello everyone! I've been looking for quite some time now for a chat/support group centered around schizoaffective disorder. I haven't really found much, other than a few really depressing articles about what I have to look forward to in life. :( I'm doing better than I ever have in terms of stability and my ability to cope, but there are still some pretty bad bumps in my road, specifically involving school and work. I would love to talk to anyone who has the same diagnosis and can relate to the struggles I'm facing right now. Thanks ya'll. :)

Current medications as of 04-25-2015
05-30-2014 - Present: Lamictal , 100mg. twice a day

I don't have schizoaffective d/o but am familiar with the symptoms as I have my Masters in Social Work. I have bipolar. But I was still able to raise my 2 sons, help raise my 8 grandbabies, earn my BS in Psychology with my minor in Sociology. Earned my MSW and received a 4.0.

You CAN do anything you put your mind to. You need to face your illness head on. I'm really thrilled you're stable. I have yet to be stable. We are still trying to find the right meds for me.

Have you tried going through the NAMI site. A lot of towns have weekly meetings and include every mental illness and you're able to talk openly about it.

I attend 2 groups a week. 1 teaches me coping skills. The other is a process group. That is where you talk about what you've been through the past week, like your challenges. The therapist and other members put their 2 cents worth in and I find this my favorite and most helpful group!! That's probably bc im an MSW and can already repeat what is being said in the coping skills class as I've had to teach them to clients.

You're in my thoughts and prayers!! You can do this!! Give yourself credit for what you've already done as well!! :)

I have schizoaffective bipolar-type. I was officially diagnosed in 2006, but had symptoms going back 20+ years. My meds are relatively stable with minor tweaks up and down in dose according to my moods. Life isn't perfect, but it is good.
