I am officially diagnosed with ADHD and GAD. My therapist mentioned today that I should consider the possibility that I may have Cyclothymia. When I was in high school (about 13/14 years ago) my dad took me to a therapist who said I had "boderline manic-depressive disorder" though never actually made a diagnosis. I've had severe mood swings for as long as I can remember though never really put much thought to it until I started working on my MSW degree. Since I've read the DSM and PDM I'm fairly certain I have some form of bipolar. Is it possible i was misdiagnosed with the ADHD & GAD? I'm extremely fearful of getting diagnosed and how it will effect a future career in social work or my relationships with my husband, children, and family. Does anyone have any insight or helpful words to share? I don't know how to tell my husband or family about this either.

Sorry you have mood swings those suck , It is possible to have more than one mental health condition at a time , just be really honest with your therapist and doctor if you doubt of the doctor or therapist then get a second or 3rd option

“Verily, with hardship there is relief.” (94:6)

“Peace be upon you, because you peresevered in patience! Excellent indeed is the final home!” (13:24)

“O’ you who believe! Seek help in patience and the Prayer.” (2:153)

I'm mostly just really scared about how this diagnosis will affect my life. I've suspected for a few years. I mean, I fit the DSM criterion pretty well. Just hearing it from my therapist has made it that much more real and I have no idea how to tell my family.

Just tell your family that your rain is wired differently and that is why you have bipolar that's what I did , it makes sense when you explain it like that
