So sorry. I found some sort of Midol type pain reliever that was acetemenaphine (sp) instead of an NSAID. It knocked me out! Then I was groggy and blah. I tried talking to my dr about it and she never really addressed it (overall misery every month). The only thing that helps me is heat like a heating pad or those temporary heat pads. I don't take NSAIDS because of lithium but now my lithium dose is low enough that I do take it once in a while.
If it doesn't let up for you, I would call the dr (don't you hate that it is now FRIDAY/weekend?!). Do you think that even thought it is heavy, it is "normal"? Or do you think it is heavier than it should be?
My friend thinks I am crazy because I always say I can't wait for menopause. I just can't wait to be done with this. As if we don't deal with enough already eh?
Hope you feel better!

Hi dpressed, I have really bad cramps to with my cycle, I also have bi polar and can't take the normal remedies either because of my ADHD pills, but I find to ease my cramps a little bit so I can at least move it helps to put a cloth that has warm water on the area just below my belly button for about 10 minutes and then the yoga pose of upward facing dog helps to give those muscles a bit of a stretch so they stop cramping. That's what does the trick for me at least.
Hope you find something that helps soon!

Current medications as of 05-15-2014
06-15-2013 - Present: Lorazepam, 0.5 mg. Up to four times a dat
06-15-2013 - Present: Nabilone, 1mg. Once a day at bedtime
06-22-2013 - Present: Zopiclone, 7.5mg. Once at bed time

You didn't say whether you'd tried any herbal supplements for your period. Assuming your doctor agrees, I think you might want to try Magnesium (relaxant), Fish Oil, and Chaste Tree Berry. It may take two cycles to see the effects. You can do a high dose of fish oil for bipolar disorder because it has mood stabilizing effects.

Also, drink LOTS of water, reduce sodium, alcohol and caffeine, and try to exercise by at least walking 15min every day during during the days of your cycle when you'd typically have symptoms. Plan ahead for this!

If you want something more "big guns," you might ask your p-doc for Valium to take during your cycle. It is both a sedative and muscle relaxant. I noticed that you aren't sleeping during your period and am surprised you weren't prescribed a benzo.
