Hi,

I just joined this site yesterday. I am looking for people who understand what I am going through.

Four years ago I was told that I had multi-impulsive bulimia. After researching this on the internet I discovered that this is in fact borderline personality disorder. When I asked my therapist if I was borderline he said that labels did not mean any thing, even though he was the one that said that I had multi-impulsive bulimia.

It was not until I changed therapists that I was told that I did have borderline personality disorder.

I have had two years of dialectical behavioural therapy which I found useful but did not really get to grips with the relationship stuff.

I have not long started psychotherapy and am now reducing my antidepressants as i have been told that people with borderline do not always respond to antidepressants. So with the help of my doctor I am slowly coming of them to see how I get on.

I am not sure what I am really trying to say here. Just that I feel quite alone at the moment.

Interesting---I have never heard that term before. I am hoping more people post here. I do not have BPD, but am a trauma survivor and have plenty of BPD traits. Seems that many with bipolar do.

I have done quite a bit of reading about BPD. One book I would recommend is Borderline Personality Disorder Demystified. I think it really gives the message that there is a lot of hope for BPD sufferers and that it should not be so stigmatizing. Therapy really works.

I hope you find this site to be a resource. It is nice to talk with others that get what an MI is all about.

Thanks for the book recommendation, I will have a look at that.

I use to have terrible terrible arguments with my husband and new that my behaviour was not normal. I just could not control my actions, well that is how it felt at the time. So when I found out that I was borderline it felt like a relieve, at first. My husband and I no longer argue as we use to but I still need help with my other behaviours.

I hope the book and others here can help me understand why I do the things I do.

Thanks for the reply madog, how are you today?

I was told today that one of the leading researchers studying BPD and a major supporter of DBT, Marsha Linehan has come up with another term to describe BPD. Let's face it, we are not borderline anything. We have a full blown disorder. The name she gives it is Pervasive Emotion Dysregulation Disorder, and from my experiences and my recent journaling I believe this fits the diagnosis much better then BPD.

I prefer the Pervasive Emotion Dycregulation Disorter laboel, particularly since Law and Order Criminal Intent and Criminal Minds are always using "borderlines" as criminals and crazies. I can say I'm crazy, bur I hate it if others say it. Speking of hate, I Hate You Don't Leave Me is another excellent and relevant read. It's older, but still informative. I have had some success with LInehans teachings. Still having difficulty with Emotional Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. working one on one with my therapist on these- just left group situation which was problem, not solution, based.

Hi jburton and ArdentOne

Thanks for your replies.

I have read the new up dated version of the book 'I hate you don't leave me' it is a very good book and recommend it to others.

I am not sure what I think of labels myself. I use the term 'borderline' because I am lazy with words and it is something that everyone knows what I am talking about. I have been looking for a definition on the internet for PEDD and found a site called 'out of the fog' which has confused me a little. If you know of site that talks about this 'label' let me know.

Marsha Linehan is going to be speaking at the next national NAMI conference. Maybe one of our NAMI advocates can speak up and give us dates and location.

First off, I've never heard the term multi-impulsive bulimia. I don't understand how that term relates any sort to a mood disorder, I relate it to an eating disorder.

However, good job on switching therapists in order to figure out what was really going on. I can relate to the feeling alone parts, and you are not alone. I promise :)

Keep up the psychotherapy and keep working on things. You can take control.
