I'll have like this feeling of pure euphoria when I wake up that last all day and it feels amazing. Sometimes it cause me to get into trouble but most times I enjoy it, it's like being high without drugs?

Sometimes It will last more than one day, but rarely. Usually I get depressed or hit baseline.

this has been happening for well over a year, most days before drugs I would just be super depressed thinking about suicide (85% of 2012 super depressed, 10% normal days, 5% of the year manic.)

My pdoc said I could possibly be bipolar, does BPD have mania or is it just bipolar exclusive?

I don't meet the requirements for any of the 4 bipolar types.

my mania doesn't last weeks or months or years.

Mania is BP exclusive; it's not a criteria for Borderline. What you are experiencing could be BP (I'm Borderline and Bipolar) but likely it's just one of those really good BPD moods. At least that's what I think. Mania characteristically has to last for a certain period of time to be considered 'mania' and there are other symptoms that have to be there too (e.g., pressured speech, grandiosity, etc) at least in some way shape or form. My mania usually goes for 3 days, which is why I got put in the 'NOS' category. I would just keep an eye on it and if it ever goes longer than 3 days you could be Bipolar.

Maybe Mania in medical terms is just for BP but I'm BPD and know a lot of other BPD people and we've all said the same, when we are up we are REALLY up like you say on drugs or something but not just totally manic, its the only way i can describe it. My times like that usually end in me crashing down hard. I can be 'manic' for just minutes or a few days, most ever been was about 10 days when I split up from my ex fiance but I was exhausted every day yet just manic and still couldn't sleep for more than 4 hours.

I think that's the extreme of our rapid mood shifts, not mania. While BP & BPD are very similar and can be mistaken for each other, unless there is some good study out there showing that there's a 'manic' component to BPD, there's no mania with BPD. Almost likely it's the extremes in moods. And your key clue is 'manic for just minutes' BPD moods can last days but often shift quickly. Bipolar has very distinct sustained mood swings.

There is actually no difference in the criteria for Borderline and Bipolar II Rapid Cycling. In Bipolar II, you can shift moods daily, or even hourly, there's even a category called "Ultradian Cycling" for that. And no distinct mood swings.
The meds for both disorders are exactly the same as far as I know.
DBT group and individual therapy are the same for both disorders.
I don't know what the new DSM-V will show, but in the DSM-IV there was only one dubious difference: Borderlines fear abandonment, and threaten
to suicide when faced with it. Who doesn't have abandonment issues?
I have Bipolar I and I'm an MFT, and I say they are one and the same
disorder, or at most, slight variations on the same spectrum.
