This is not a post about psych drugs. This is a post about other prescription meds and what they can sometimes do. I was taking pravachol which is a cholesterol lowering drug. I took it becasue there is a heavy cardiac history on both sides of my family, even though I have had no cardiac problems so far myself. Anyway, at my annual physical this year one of my liver function tests was, they said, "a little high" I was supposed to go in this week to get it double checked.

So I had a panic attack about could I still take my psych drugs becasue a lot of them go thru the liver too. I called my pdoc, and a few hours later she called me back and said none of them would have that particular problem and keep taking them.

Anyway, yesterday I got a copy of my labs in the mail. The 'slightly" elevated liver test was double the highest normal value. Well, maybe that is why I have been having so many muscle aches. I had thought it was just arthritis and feeling it more because I didn't have my Cymbalta to help with pain relief.

Well, tomorrow I go in for my repeat lab, so I stopped the cholesterol med last night. Guess what---best sleep I've had in weeks and only very minor muscle pain this morning. I will have to have a talk with my regular doctor tomorrow I guess. I cheated a little by just stopping the cholesterol pill. But to me double normal is not a "little bit" high.

So be sure your pdoc knows everything you take, and ask your pharmacist what other than your pdrugs could sometimes cause side effects. The answers may surprise you--it sure surprised me.
