A bit of an odyssey here. Was diagnosed with postnatal depression after having my baby at the end of May. Was put onto sertraline by my GP and referred to the psych. Got an “upgrade” to the severe kind and was referred straight to the community mental health team for extra support.
Sertraline did do nothing for me. Well, I’ve learnt about anxiety. Previously not known to me.
Psych changed meds to Venlafaxine plus Mirtazepine. Horrendous agitation. Had to stop after 17 days.
Psych changed me over to Duloxetine. Same effect. Just felt this horrendous agitation coming on after already 6 days and meds got stopped.
Consultant then started me on lofepramine. Felt so low that she wanted me in hospital after two weeks. Kept me there for 12 days.
Since I’ve started lofepramine I’m having really weird changes in my energy. I’ve experienced three “phases” of 6 days of wired energy levels. I HAVE to do things. Not funny at all as my mood is really low. Tearful most days. Hopelessness. Insomnia. Problems bonding with baby. Suicidal thoughts. You name it, I have it. The usual crap.
Has anyone experienced these changes?
Seems to be down to meds?
Consultant seems to be puzzled. It’s def not a straight forward postnatal depression. Meds don’t do what they are supposed to do.
Lofepromine slowly shows some effect on the energy side. Not on the mood side.
At the moment I’m lethargic and paralyzed.
Exhausted. Still can’t sleep. Don’t want to experience another one of these weird energy times. Not sure if I actually can handle another one. Anxiety kicked in again on top of things.
Not so sure now if the venlafaxine and duloxetine was really agitation it be being energized and extremely irritated. I’ve been irritated most days. More or less from the beginning.
Have started seeing the psychologist and she’s hoping he can shift some light into my weird “behaviors”.
Anyone’s been in the same boat before?
I’ve had the baby for 7 months ago and still can’t enjoy him. That def was not the plan :((
