Hi everyone!

I know there's a lot of comments on most forums about the withdrawal effects of Effexor, one such being vertigo/dizziness and "brain zaps". Does anyone else taking Effexor currently actually get the brain zaps while ON the medication?

Medications for February 2009

I've been on effexor XR for quite some time now and do not experience any brain "zaps".

I was on Effexor for a long time (until BP went up) and the only thing I noticed that might help is being very consistent about taking it at as close to the same time everyday if you can. No, I did not have 'brain zaps' while on it.

When I had to go off-- my pdoc made me go verrry verry slowly--no brain zaps then either.

Thanks for the replies. I'm trying to narrow down which "side effects" I'm having on Effexor are actually side effects of the medication and which are symptomatic of my PTSD from a car accident last October (I started these tic-spasms shortly after the accident around the same time I started the Effexor).

Hi Symbeline. Everyone is so different, if it were me I would say the tics you describe are from the PTSD. PTSD is essentially the body reacting to a stressor Ie, car accident---as if it was happening now even tho it isn't. Vertigo and dizzyness kinda go with panic for me.
By the way, have you checked with your general health practicioner to rule out any lingering physical problems from the accident. Any damage to middle or inner ear could also cause what you describe.
I hope you feel better soon.
