I'm just kind of curious, and don't get me wrong, this forum is important. Why is this forum up and running when no one posts to it? It's kind of depressing that women don't post anything here, especially those of us that fall under this category.

I wondered the same, since apparently it been a long time since anyone had posted. I personally am in perimenopause, such a fun place to be. You've been placed in the middle of everything, where mine has been somewhat gradual. Everyone is different, I still get hot flashes on occasion or night sweats but nothing like it was in '06-'08. I tried using the estroven stuff you get at the drugstore but I don't know if it really helped. My bp really came out when I started this change, there isn't enough research done on women in our age range. In my opinion, if it can show up at puberty, and after having a baby...doesn't it make sense that our hormones at this time can also make it show up in a big way? I mean, those are 3 times if massive hormone changes in a woman's body.
I hope you are feeling better soon.

oh and I won't use hrt if I can possibly help it, my mom has had breast cancer and I've already had a scare. my dr says no hrt for me. I didn't want to anyway but who knows, it could the same as women saying they want natural childbirth until the day actually arrives LOL

you say psycho like its a bad thing

It's only been 3 weeks and I already hate the hot flash thing! I'm using a low dose estrogen patch (.075 mg), which is helping. I had a hysterectomy 3 weeks ago yesterday. If you read one of my previous postings, that will explain what kind it was. I'm actually feeling pretty good, about 75 to 80 % at this point. See my gyn in 3 weeks.

I too am in perimenopause and have been for 5 years, but no treatment. Finally sending in the saliva hormone tests to try and find some relief. Has anyone used the bio identical hormones?

I have no estrogen left anymore, due the hysterectomy. That's why I'm on an estrogen patch. I've already had the doctor increase the dose and may have to have him up it again. Not sure yet.

Before my surgery, I was at the beginning stages of perimenopause.

Menopause REALLY, REALLY sucks!!

From here http://emedicine.medscape.com/...

>>Bipolar disorder during menopause

Exacerbation of mood symptoms during menopause has been noted in women with preexisting bipolar disorder. Research has suggested that women with bipolar disorder have higher rates of depressive episodes during the menopausal transition. The frequency of depressive episodes in this population appears to be higher than during premenopausal years.20 Earlier studies suggested an increase in rapid cycling during the menopausal transition; however, this finding has not been reproduced.21

I have noticed that I've been more depressed, even when I still had my parts intact. I'm still feeling depressed. Maybe more so, due to having the hysterectomy. I don't know if other women have gone through this.

Yeah, it's normal at menopause, even without the hysterectomy and oophorectomy and existing mood disorders.

Finally I get some answers that make sense! I'm so tired of wondering about all of this. I'd ask either my pdoc or my gynecologist, but I don't think either of them would totally understand what I'm talking about.

Have a look at this discussion of a book called "Women's Moods" .
I've read the book and found it helpful (not massively so as it's more for naturally menopausal women than surgically).
It's not specific to bipolar but I reckon it's worth a look at.
