howdy buckaroos! perimenopause is a pain in the caboose. i get so angry that it kicks into rage and i try to break something. my face is like a furnace and i take ice-cubes to cool it down. i'm now on evening primrose, black cohosh, and don quoi and so far so good. my face has cooled down and my rage has taken a notch down too. anybody else using herbs with success? last night was my first night's sleep in a week, but my bp doc helped with that. pp was killing my bp hypomania, but she gave me a whomper of a sleep aid to counter act the pp not sleeping. (did you get that?) well i'm sold on herb treatment not hormons.

You're not the only one that doesn't want the hormones. I'm 35, not anywhere close to menopause (So the dr's say - but it runs in my family at about 40) and experience the hot flashes, night sweats. the "I'm so mad I want to kill somebody". I have to put my head in the freezer to cool off! Valerian root has helped with both the sleeplessness and the rage. I'm still new to this mood tracking thing, but there's my two cents. Too bad I can't control the bleeding I experience!!!

Ok, I'm tired of this crouchy mood. I's getting worse. I'm just really pissy. I'm taking all of the damn herbs they tell me too; black cohosh, primrose, dong quoi, plus vitamins. I will not take hormons they'll mess me up more. Plus I haven't had my period in over a month. DOWN WITH THE CHANGE.

I'm heading into this phase too. The hot flashes haven't started yet. Yuck. The gynaecologist said I had some atrophy and prescribed a cream which worked. But I felt so angry with my body for getting older and, atrophying (if there's such a word). I walked out of the clinic and felt so sad. But I feel happier now. As I said, I'm not up to the sweats and the hot headedness, so there's lots of time to go.

I agree. Drats to menopause.

Sandy, I feel for ya. My sister, who as already gone through menopause, still gets the migrains. This week has been a bad week for her. I had migrains one year a few years back and then they went away. I now have body aches like there's no tomorrow. My doctor is tired of hearing about it. I'm going to do pool therapy next week. Hope it will help. Sandy, I hope you get back on track too. Is summer to soon to hope for? How about Christmas? Just remember to breath.

OK, perimenopause bites the big one. I'm so crabby, even bitchy ALL OF THE TIME. I get realy intense about it and I start to hit things. I shake and twitch too and that upsets me so much and most of the reason for my hitting. I'm going to break something soon. I do take atavan which helps, but I'm running out and it puts me to sleep. My moods are just so on overdrive it's scary. I'm out of control. There is no way I'd be able to hold down a job or go to school right now. Good thing I'm on disability for bipolar. I feel so messed up.

I seem to have a lot of trouble with words. I go to say one thing and something entirely different comes out. This sometimes happens when I'm stressed, but at the moment is happening more often. So I wonder if this is the hormones?

Thanks everyone for sharing. I think this would be awful to go through alone.

Hi Nyna. Sorry this post is so late. I wanted to support you on your trouble w/words. I'm having simular problems. I'm in the middle of a sentence and I suddenly forget my word. I know the topic, just not the word to say. I get so frustrated, mad and VERY PISSED OFF. My doctor says that this is typical for (peri)menopause and wont last that long. Since I've been taking Black Cohosh, Dong Quoi and Primrose the symptomes have lessoned and my feelings about it aren't so intense.

Another thing - my doctor recomended to me some drops called Wise Changes. They are from the web site Wish Garden.com. I've just started taking it, but I'll keep you updated on how it's working.

I was diagnosed as peri menopausal about 3 or 4 months ago by my gynecologist. I've been having some crazy periods, which are all over the radar. I'm grouchy most of the time. I've also been having headaches as well, just in the last couple of weeks. My gyn gave a prescription for the generic version of Provera, 10 mg worth. I wonder if anyone else has been given the same thing.

Medications for June 2010
01-03-2009 - Present:Novolog Insulin, 6 units, slide . twice daily
07-22-2009 - Present:Trazadone, 300 mg. 1 time, A.M.

I just recently had an exam by a doctor but he didn't se em to have a clue of what I was going through. I may be going through peri menopause at the age of 36, the thought of that depresses me because I spent my entire young life lost and miserable. My anxiety has gotten worse and so has the depression and the episodes of mania. I hear bipolar just gets worse with age, is that true? If anyone has a comment or any statistics please respond.

Medications for June 2010
07-16-2009 - Present:topamax, 200 mgs. twice daily
03-31-2010 - Present:valuim, 15 mgs. 3 times daily
04-08-2010 - 03-31-2010:lamictal, 100 mgs. once daily
