I don't know about where you are, but it has been the dreariest, grossest, most depressing weather a December has ever seen around here. And it has me so down in the dumps. I'm just despairing over everything. And even if there are blue skies, the dead grayness of everything has been bringing me down. Not even the Christmas lights are helping as much as they have in the past. I have a HappyLight, and have been taking Vitamin D. What else works for you?? I'll try anything.

You may try increasing the amount of vitamin D3. I take 5800 IU a day, once a day. Also, replace the light bulbs in the room you are in the most to 'daylight' bulbs. I have three 100 watt daylight bulbs in my office.

Current medications as of 01-17-2012
01-01-2005 - Present: Zyrtec, 10 mg. Once a day.
01-01-2009 - Present: Buspar, 45 mg. Three times a day.
01-01-2009 - Present: Celexa, 60 mg. Once a day.
01-01-2009 - Present: Xanax, 8 mg. Four times a day.
12-01-2011 - Present: Vitamin D3 , 5800 IU. Once a day.

Katie,

I have been doing a lot of reading about sleep disorders. I think you may be sleeping too much. That can actually exacerbate depression. Try to get no more than 8 hours and see what happens. If you just cannot function on less than 10 hours of sleep, then suggest to your general practitioner that you would like a sleep study. It could be that you have a disorder.

With the exception of one large dip, your sleep looks consistant and your mood does as well. 8 hours is not a hard and fast rule. Many things factor in and everyone needs different amounts of sleep. Some can make it for years on 4 a night and some must have at least 10 to feel good. I tend to feel better, myself, if I get 8, 9, or 10 hours a night. If I get less than 6 I hit the bottom mood wise AND I will end up making up the sleep deficit either through a nap (sometimes unexpected) or by sleeping longer the next night. Stress itself causes sleep disorder. I have recently stopped drinking coffee with the exception of a cup or two throughout the week. So far all seems to be well (and I could not be more relieved). I've suffered with chronic insomnia for over 2 years.
