I have BP-II. When I'm hypomanic, I sleep 3-5 hrs/night, and when I'm depressed I sleep up to 20 hrs/night. Even when I'm reasonably stable, my sleep duration varies a LOT from night to night. As far as I can remember, it's always been like this. I feel like I should probably try to fix it...but how?

I hear you there. I've been in a hypo-manic state for the last 5 days now. But thats only because I started taking less of my medicine for a stupid reason. Don't ever do that! I can only speak from personal experience but taking a mixture of Valerian Root and Passion Flower (which you can pick up at any vitamin shop and some grocery chains) has helped me when I'm in a pinch. For some people it works, for others not so much. But its completely herbal and you should try it if you haven't before.

How about exercise? That helps a lot to maintain a healthy circadian rhythm.

Current medications as of 08-08-2013
03-14-2011 - Present: Lexapro, 20mg. one per day
08-01-2012 - Present: Depakote ER, 1250mg. one time at night

Yeah,

I can totally relate. It has got to the point where my P-doc has prescribed me Zolpidem (Ambien) Which is dangerous because I have been clean (not self medicating) for over 3 yrs now and even though I would take whatever to get high I preferred downer type drugs because I had untreated mania rather than depression most of the time.

Medications for July 25, 2013 to August 24, 2013
05-18-2012 - Present:Propranolol, 20mg. 1 daily
05-16-2012 - Present:Allopurinol, 300mg. 1 time daily
02-19-2012 - Present:zolpidem, 10mg. 1: 30 mins before bed
09-26-2011 - Present:Vyvanse (lisdexamfetamine dimesylate), 70mgs. 1 in morning
