I found this site last week after my doc cautiously breached the subject of BP. On the Goldberg scale I scored 46, moderate for BP. I have been tracking since that time, I hope it will will give me some insite to some of the moods and emotions I am having. I am a 48f, and have always been I was quick to anger and change to highs. Extremely impulsive and sometimes have loss of short periods of time, (disassociation) I now have a terrific therapist after a summer of severe depression. Sorry if this is rambling, just glad I found this site. I want to journal, without fearing my family might read it, and find support in others who can understand what I am going through

Welcome Kissie
I'm fairly new here too. I started in late Jan.
There are a lot of great people here and we all try to be very supportive.
I do not know what the Goldberg scale is. If my PDOC ever scored me she didn't tell me about it. Would you do me a favor and explain about it so I can ask her next time I see her? All I know is that I'm bipolar 1.
Thanks

Hi, most PDOCs use one form or another of the scale to evaluate where you rate. At Psych.com is a example of the scale. We are still trying to evaluate where I stand in the spectrum of the disease. The more I learn about BP, the more I don't like where things could be headed!

Hi pnckissie, welcome to the forums. I have been using the tracker and posting since January when my pdoc and I concluded that I was Bipolar II and NOT unipolar depressed as had been my 10 year old diagnosis. Talk about confused and scared--that was me
.
This forum has helped me calm down even tho I am still in medication transistion because all of the SSRIs (and I had been on most of them at one point or another) by themselves are not good for anyone anywhere on the Bipolar Spectrum.

Have you read "Why Am I Still Depressed" by Dr. Jim Phelps. I sound like his publicity agent here but thats because his book convinced me I am not insane with all this changing around my pdoc and I are doing. It also convinced me that the Bipolar spectrum is not an awesomely fearful thing, there is good help for anywhere you are on it. The first step is pinning your location down and it sounds like you are on your way to doing that.

Today I was getting down on myself because I was still having SSRI withdrawal symptoms and my husband said, "Oh, of course you are, its only been three weeks."

I looked at the calender where I track meds--he was right--it only seemed like forever. I guess I am saying you have to be patient with yourself as you get this thing under control. Thats hard for me, I am not good with patience, especially with myself.

Best wishes and feel better soon.

Thanks for the post back. I was in an acute state of depression the first of last summer, had a really hard time with that and adjusting to new meds. Am now on Cymbalta 60mg BID and it seems to be helping. I too have been on tons of SSRIs and they work for a while, it is scary when things start changing again, seems to get worse as I get older. Maybe I can stay stable for a while!

Welcome to the group pnckissie!

I'm a big fan of Dr.Jim Phelps too. I have learned a lot from his site www.psycheducation.org . One of these days I do plan to read his book, but I think he puts most of the info on the web site.

None of my pdocs has explained anything about BP to me. I'm thankful for internet tools such as this site that have helped me finally understand myself and develope a personal treatment plan. Moodtracker has been more valuable to me then the $1,000 s I've spent on meds and pdocs. I hope you take full advantage of it and the wonderfully helpful members of this forum.

I to am new here after recently being diagnosed BiPolar I. It's comforting to know other people out there know what it's like :-) I'm really impressed by this online mood tracker and I'm curious if it helps a lot or a little for everyone.

Welcome Maybreeze. The moodtracker has helped me a lot. Because I am in a med transition, my moods change rapidly so it is really handy to have a record when I go to see my psychiatrist (pdoc--tho in my case she is a Nurse Practitioner) and my tdoc (talk therapist) Otherwise, the days kind of blur into each other and as I tend to minimize my symptoms, I underreport stuff.

Anyway, I am sure you will find this site helpful. There is a lot of good information for on-line and book reading recs too if you are into that kind of thing. I am, the more I know the more input I feel I have in my treatment plan and since its my body, thats important to me.
