How do you deal with your anxiety?
I take klonopin on an as needed basis for it, but lately as needed has become 2 or more times a day. I'm also on 100mg of lamictal and luvox daily (bipolar II & ocd).
I'll wake up in the morning terrified of driving to work (40min in rush hour), I get to work and will talk to someone at least once a day (on the phone or in person) who will even just sound upset and that will send my anxiety reeling. I'm usually a very good multi tasker but have become anxious about doing more than one thing at once, causing my work to have less quality than previously. Then I become anxious about the drive home. When I get home I can normally relax for a few hours then my brain starts going and won't shut off. I'm grinding my teeth without realizing it awake and asleep.
I just can't grasp how people carry on normal lives! I'm so jealous of them.
I'm going to see my pdoc Tuesday; I'm just curious as to how others deal with anxiety.

Hi Emuko; I have a lot of trouble with anxiety too--in fact in was a big reason why I had to leave my job as a nurse. I was terrified that I would get so anxious I would make a major mistake and kill someone(I never did, but anxiety is not rational anyway.)

I take Klonopin too, my pdoc says up to 3mg a day is alright---what does your prescriber say about it. Just knowing I can take more--I usually take two half milligram tablets a day (one in morning, one at night) but sometimes just knowing I can take more if I need too helps prevent attacks.

Some of the anxiety is part of the whole Bipolar II thing, I have Bipolar II too. My pdoc has also started me on Lamictal---starting as slowly as we have to is a real pain. She says the therapeutic dose when I can realistically expect relief is at 200-250 mg, so some days I just feel resigned and hanging on because the Klonopin does not help if I am having anxiety and agitation at the same time.

One thing that has helped me (and you won't like it but I think its true) is realizing that multi-tasking is a MYTH. Most people can't do it. What you can do is have more than one thing going at a time and be hopping back and forth between them, but most human brains really only think about one thing at a time. Our thoughts can get so fast it feels like more than one thing but it isn't. Telling myself I have to multi-task sets me up to have fast thoughts--so fast I hardly know what I am thinking and THAT triggers big time anxiety every time.

I keep good new age mood music going almost all the time I am alone, it helps calm my brain. Some people have good results with inscense--I have allegies so I can't do that one but maybe you can. I really recommend relaxing music in the car at rush hour.

Anxiety is my second worse symptom, (mixed moods are first) so I know how bad it gets. I hope some of this was helpful and not just rambling. I also hope we both hang in there until our lamictal gets to therapeutic doses--100 mgs doesn't usually do it.

Oh-- and what is luvox---I don't know that one.
