Today the forcasters are calling for sunny conditions and a high of 26c or 80F. I am asking the great people who use this site to help me. I have bipolar. I have no idea what the lable for it is yet. Bipolar 1 or 2? I am on 600 mg of lithium to start and will see my physican on 04/28/2009. I presume I will be on a dosage of 900mg-1200mg. I have a nasty temper, suffer severe anxiety, and can be very irritable. Generaly I am a nice person since I am on lithum, which has helped me tremendiously but; not with my anxiety, anger, and irritability. Are the any medications that my fellow Moodtracker.com users and forum partisipants have used for these conditions.

I'm afraid I don't have the names of meds just to help irritability and anxiety. Your PDOC should have some.
I find that the meds to regulate my moods handle those problems for me.
I still have some irritability and stuff but not as bad now that I'm stable.

1.) Don't really worry about the label. My file officially has me diagnosed as a "mood disorder NOS" my doctor told me verbally that I'm bipolar (there is a reason for this) and I'm on Depakote.

2.) Give your medications time to work. Especially lithium. They have to gradually increase the dosage and monitor you or you can develop lithium toxicity. Just be honest with your doctor and he may add something else to the mix. They don't want to prescribe you lithium for the bipolar, ambien for the sleeplessness, and xanax for anxiety all at once, especially if the sleeplessness and anxiety are related to the bipolar and can be treated with one medication. Let your doc know and they'll help get you on the right combo.

If the Lithium does not work for you, and you have to give it time--unfortunately no med works immediately--there are other meds they will try.

I am not on Lithium but my treatment team and I are still trying to find the right combo to get me out of hypomania and NOT back down into depression. I have the inappropriate anger and irritability you describe without meds too, also anxiety. My pdoc said, when I asked her if it was hopeless, "Oh no, we have meds and combos we haven't tried yet. We have barely begun to fight this"

So they will find something that will help. But it will take time. We have, with these mood disorders, no tests that show when meds are working so we all walk around waiting for something that works.
