I tried posting on the medication forum but got no response, so thought I would try here. I'll do my best to give info but not make it too long.

Saw Psych on Wed. Have been taking meds for bi-polar for over a year. He had a thought that maybe I was misdiagnosed because my "manic" phases are not "classic" (I can still sleep, just have energy and the talking is FAST and garbled). He was thinking more that it could possibly be depression sided with ADHD and severe anxiety.

So, took off Depakote and others. Left Celexa and started me on this Straterra. HATE IT!!! I can't sleep at all. I'm jittery all the time, literally shaking and I cannot concentrate my mind is going so fast. He's not in until Monday. Ive tried taking in the AM vs. at night but no relief.

Can ya'll tell me? Is this normal side effects until I get used to it, or did he screw me up> The depression is still HORRIBLE too.

Sounds like the doc was second guessing his diagnosis. For me, originally I was diagnosed ADHD comorbid general anxiety disorder. The Celexa seems to help a lot but the ADHD meds threw me in to a constant state of manic. For me, although I didn't like the ADHD meds, it seemed to help doc come to a more accurate diagnosis. As far as I know, Straterra, and other ADHD meds, do not have to build up so, I wouldn't expect any "getting used to it", you should be able to see doc and get switched if necessary. To me though, it sounds like the side effects of the Straterra are worse than the symptoms they are prescribed for. Go see doc ASAP.

Current medications as of 06-21-2009
05-11-2009 - Present: Lamictal, 200 mg. Daily
05-25-2009 - Present: Ambien, 10 mg. As needed
06-08-2009 - Present: Buspar, 30 mg. 1 AM for anxiety; 1 PM for bruxing

Sorry I didn't see this earlier...

ADHD meds are fast acting. That's why kids on these medicines will often take their meds before and during school and then they go without them when they get home.

Also, people with ADHD are just wired differently. I have no idea why this is the case, but for 90% of us if we were to take stimulants we be jacked up for days...yet it calms them down. Also if they take benedryl, it makes them hyper (which I was taking benedryl to knock me out before I got a prescription for Ambien).

Strattera is not a fast acting drug but requires at least 2 - 3 weeks to start working. It works when optimum blood levels are reached. It does not work the same as Ritalin/Concerta (other ADHD) meds, which are fast acting and are only effective for a specific period of time.

Medications for July 2009
06-22-2009 - Present:Parnate, 30 mg. 10 x 3
06-22-2009 - Present:Espiride, 100 mg. 50 x 2
06-22-2009 - Present:Lithium, 750 mg. 1 x 250 2 x 250
