I'm nothing close to being healthy right now and really should be in the hospital. Problem is, I don't think they would admit me. I'm having lots of ideation but I seriously doubt I'm in immenent danger. There is however lots of self destructive behavior such as sleeping all day instead of going to work. I've completely withdrawn from everything, not to mention the hopelessness. Anyone have any thoughts?

Have you already been diagnosed with a mood disorder? Do you have a therapist? Do you have a psychiatrist? Do you use moodtracker. Do you have a supportive friend or family member that can help motivate you? If the answer to these questions is no then, I hope you would start using moodtracker today and talk yourself into making an appointment with your family doctor and letting him know what's going on.

For me, being in the hospital does not help depression, it really is only helpful to protect you or others from yourself.

If you feel you should be in the hospital, then you should go. They will make the determination there whether or not you should be admitted, just be honest with them about your thoughts, how things have been going for you lately, etc. If they don't admit you, at the very least they can give you resources about where you can follow up for outpatient treatment and they won't let you leave unless they are absolutely assured that you are not going to hurt yourself or anyone else. If you cannot guarantee them that, they most likely will admit you. I would urge you to seek some type of treatment as soon as possible, and if you feel like you might hurt yourself or someone else, either call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.

Not everyone is hospitalized due to suicidal thoughts, my pdoc hospitalized me once because we had to do a fast med change when my antidepressant abruptly stopped working. Like everyone else has said, please get the treatment you need to feel better.

Thank you for the replies. I did go to the emergency room and get admitted. It was my first inpatient stay. They released me today after almost a complete makeover of my meds. Boy did I need it too. I don't remember too much from the first day and a half there. Everyone was so nice and a person could easily tell that they worked there because they actually cared. I have to say that the only "bad" thing was I couldn't smoke or chew snuff. The little nicotine inhalers just aren't the same. LOL

Anyway, I'm doing 1000% better now.
