The house is quiet. I am ready to start my evening routine. Then sometimes I get this urge to eat. Maybe I need to get to bed earlier so the urge doesn't come. Some days I wish I craved lettuce and cucumbers more often. But from like 8-10 p.m. I don't crave lettuce and cucumbers. Does someone have a strategy that helps them? or has helped them once?

Binge eating at night is my biggest health issue! I think I've heard and tried every strategy that exist. Some nights I simply cannot get to sleep unless I am stuffed. I hope someone has an idea that I haven't tried yet.

The most helpful strategy for me has been to turn off the TV (avoid all the food commercials) and just read. It is hard to read and eat at the same time.

The last two days I have asked myself at night, when I FEEL like eating: Smurf1, are you REALLY hungry? I am not. Pretty simple.

The thing I find that helps with binge eating at night before bed is to brush my teeth... cause then I don't want to eat and get my teeth dirty...

I've found that brushing my teeth instead of eating when the binge urge hits does seem to help.

Hey smurf.

Ive always eaten before bed because even though the body slows down, my metabolism is disgustingly fast. I can eat a whole meal right before bed and wake up hungry as a horse. Its really bad when i don't eat anything. My advice would be to just eat something more filling and hour or two before bed.

That's a site which tells you the most filling foods. Hope it helps.

I used to have a serious problem with night-eating (it's actually considered a disorder). I overcame this problem with a little bit of innovative thinking. The worst way to get yourself to stop doing something is to "punish" yourself so I came up with a plan to reward myself every night. I bought real dark chocolate (must be 70% cocoa) and every night I would reward myself with 2 blocks (try not to eat more than that otherwise you are defeating the whole purpose of the excersise). The strong flavour of the chocolate left a lingering taste in my mouth so I never had the urge to eat after that. Dark chocolate has the added benefit of providing the most anti-oxidants (more than blue berries or anything else you know that provides anti-oxidants). It's also renowned to be good for depression. So dont feel guilty - indulge! P.S Keep the rest of the chocolate somewhere that's not so accessible.
I no longer eat chocolate at night and night-eating is a thing of the distant past.
