While sugar is the most obvious way to throw your moods off, beware of anything with high fructose corn syrup or enriched flour used in breads. Unfortunately, most foods are made with at least 1 of those ingredients. These foods will spike your blood glucose as much as simple sugars, ending with a crash in energy and mood later.

Stabilizing blood glucose is directly related to level mood.

Anything with whole wheat (but preferably whole grains) is better because the body breaks it down at a steady, even rate. As opposed to blood sugar levels spiking and crashing.

Medications for November 2010
08-14-2010 - Present:Zyprexa, 15 mg. Once per day
09-24-2010 - Present:Wellbutrin, 150 mg. Once per day

Tiger, just be aware too that some of these antiD's can cause high high high blood sugars, even turning someone non diabetic into a raging diabetic. Cymbalta is one of those. So your sugars can fluctuate because of Meds too, not just diet :).

But one way people may want to really associate the two is to report on your sugar intake in the report journal section so you can tell what's happening, or get a glucometer and measure your sugars like a diabetic, and also when you have mental crises. Just a thought or two. But there is always that lag behind your sugar highs as you've pointed out to people that could be contributing to their feelings of depression.

Speaking of sugar. I usually get a bit of an energy drain after lunch around 2:30 or 3pm. Do you have any strategy besides caffeine to keep energy levels even? I try really hard to avoid enriched wheat flour and stick to whole grains. I'm avoiding caffeine because it ALWAYS gives me very difficult head aches. Ideas?

From my diabetic courses I have been told that eating lots of protein or fiber with meals can help the food take longer to digest and breakdown, causing the least amount of burst, then crash phenomenon. For instance taking a glass of milk or cheese with meals tends to make the nutrients get into your system slower so you don't crash rightt away.... Just a thought?
