Has anyone else tried yoga. It is not as hard as it may appear. Especially if you are doing beginners yoga. It is calming , peaceful , and relaxing. I have a dvd that I have used for years. You do not have to go out to do yoga. You can do it from the comfort of your own home. Just a thought. :-)

I am currently taking a beginners yoga and I am so far loving it! The hardest part is to get my butt out the door to my yoga class. I also have yoga on my computer, but I just can't bring myself to do it. I have noticed a change in my mood (in a good way) and I am finding doing exercise helps my feel like I am becoming active again. I am trying hard to lose weight which will also help my mood.

You are definitely right - it is not as hard as it looks :)

I have tried to do yoga a few times and I just got another dvd from the library and want to plan on trying it again. Many have told me of their benefits to doing it but I find myself bored or not coordinated / flexible enough for most of the positions..........any advice? Should I just keep trying and will it get easier??
Thanks
L

I took it in a class and I am not very flexible either, but you can try using books under your hand to make it easier. It is more about relaxation than doing the position at its physical extreme. For most of the positions I am just barely leaning forward - I am just trying to do the position as correctly as my body will allow.
It will get easier and your body will become more flexible.
Good luck!

Thanks, I will give it more tries. Want the benefits just need to be more patient with my bodies liimitations. I took a class years ago at the gym and did like it, so I should check out local sources for it.
I plan to work with the dvd today, will let you know how it goes.
Thanks again!
Have a great day
Laurie

I took a class a while back and did not like the music.. not my thing, however I have been reading up on Yoga alot lately because of it's benefits. Yesterday I did a few basic poses, (Tara Styles, streaming through my Blue Ray) and found it to be quite relaxing and invigorating at the same time. It was short, sweet and just enough to get a taste. I plan on doing more today. I am one of those people that likes to workout hard, get my heart rate up and get sweaty. I worked out at lunch and then did the Yoga after work and it actually stretched my muscles out since I knew I would be sore after yesterday's workout beating! If I don't exercise my depression hits rock bottom..

Current medications as of 06-16-2011
04-06-2011 - Present: fluexotine, 20 mg. one time daily
04-26-2011 - Present: Zolpidem, 5 mg. as needed for sleep

I have a yoga program on my Nintendo DSi, I try and do it often as I can with soothig music and sandalwood incense which I finds relaxes me alot, especially when Im not aware of how quick and shallow my breathing is.

I make an effort to wake up at 5 a.m. and do about 15 minutes of yoga each day. I use a video I have had for about 16 years by Linda Arkin. I find it is a good way to start the day, it gets the stiffness out of my body and sets a good tone for the day. I also make an effort to do light stretching at night followed by meditation before going to bed.

Medications for July 2011
07-18-2011 - Present:Abilify, 15 mg. Once in the morning
07-18-2011 - Present:Bupropion SR, 100 mg. Twice per day
07-18-2011 - Present:Zyprexa , 2.5. As needed for anxiety
