Before we found out I was Bipolar II instead of Unipolar, I was on Cymbalta. It was the best AD I had ever been on in terms of controlling my Depression, it was only when the Hypomanic Bipolar II symptoms finally surfaced enough to be noticeable that I had to go off of it.

That was the only bad part---getting off of it is as bad as, or worse than getting off of Effexor. I would highly recommend starting slowly, so if you have any problems and have to come off it might be an easier process.

For me, it was weight neutral (I didn't gain or loose--why can't they find one that makes you loose) and I had no dizzyness, vision or other problems. It actually helped a little at decreasing mild arthritis pain (I am 53 so some is expected) I had a bit of constipation, but nothing extra fiber couldn't help.

The only thing is be sure you are either completely unipolar or have a mood stabelizer on board if you are the least bit bipolar. I found out after the fact--Cymbalta is one of the worst drugs for 'tipping over' and bringing out Bipolar symptoms.

Good luck, and I hope you are better soon.

Oh, Cymbalta. I was put on Cymbalta for nerve pain I was having in my upper left thigh. It really helped when I took three (30 mg each), but I had the horrible side effect of severe constipation. And when I WAS able to move my bowels, there was blood all over it. So I stuck with 2 at a time. But, in the end, the constipation was not worth the benefit of being partially pain free.

Another side effect of Cymbalta for me was complete hesitation when trying to pee. That was one of the reasons I took it actually, because I think I have an overactive bladder. And Cymbalta constrains that urge a little. But at 2 and 3 pills a day, it constrained it so much that I couldn't even go. Another reason why I stopped Cymbalta.

I am now taking Lyrica for the nerve pain. Which helps a little (when I take 3 pills @ 75 mg each), and shoots me in the other direction (bowels that are too loose).

Any comments/suggestions on these medications?
