This weekend I lost a very dear friend of mine to suicide. She was suffering from mild postpartum depression and her doctor put her on Lexapro, Klonapin, and Ambien. I know high suicide rates have been reported in teens and young adults with Lexapro, but she was 41. Everyone is beyond shocked by her death. She hung herself in her garage. Her son ( who is only 14 mths) and husband were her entire world. She was looking so forward to the future and had even made plans for a vacation and bought tickets to a movie on the day of her death. She didn't leave a note. She didn't have any episodes which would have led anyone to be suspicious that she was suicidal. I read an article that in some rare cases Lexapro has caused adverse reactions in some adults that can lead to suicide. Has anyone else heard of this? Her husband has hired a team of lawyers to see if her doctor can in any way be held accountable for her death. However, it will be a few weeks before her tox results come back. I would love to here anyone's opinions on this. Sincerely, Sherry xoxo

Hi Sherry, I am very sorry to hear about your dear friend's suicide. I came very close to committing suicide while on lexipro about a year and a half ago. I was having a seemingly fine day the day this happened and I had felt the lexipro was working well for me for the few weeks I had been on it. Then out of no where I decided to hike up on a trail next to my house and I looked for a tree that would be best suitable to hang myself. I was very strangely detached and didn't care about my family or friends who all love me very much. I never saw it coming, but now I understand how it happens. Thankfully I changed my mind. After that I realized anti depressants are no good for me. There is really no way doctors can know how a patient will respond to any medication and its up to the patient and his/her family to know when he or she is having a bad reaction and do something about it. But if there is no warning sign that's not always possible. It's a terrible tragedy. I wish peace for all of you.

Current medications as of 04-03-2013
01-06-2012 - Present: Adderall , 10 mg. Twice daily
05-01-2012 - Present: Atavan, .50. As needed
05-01-2012 - Present: Trileptal, 600 mg. 300 mg Twice a day
09-01-2012 - Present: Lamictal, 175 mg. At bedtime
12-27-2012 - Present: Prazosin , 10 mg. Nighty
