Lamictal and mania

I currently struggle with both OCD and bipolar and am soon going to just be on lamictal. From what I've heard, lamictal helps a lot with depression but not mania. Has anyone found taking lamictal found this to be true?
Also, I am considering taking prozac with my lamictal for my OCD, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea because I risk becoming manic. Does anyone know if they can be taken together?

I have Bipolar 1 and I am currently on lamictal and wellbutrin. Was on lamictal for a while on it's own. I didn't find it to make me manic..just functional. Everyone is different though. Last month my pdoc told me I am in a mixed episode and that's why she added wellbutrin for depression.

I have Bipolar I and ADHD and ODD and they are watching for Bipolar II. I take Lamictal, wellbutrin and depokote, and I still fell wired...most days I still have my mood swings mostly I stay in manic mode...I think it is because of me being ADHD that keeps me Manic mostly but I do have my depression days too. I mostly get destructive in my mood swings so I know that my meds will be changing soon...I am new to this so my chart will not show much of anything. I havent even finished my med chart. sorry

I tried lamictal with only 5mg of Abilify. I became manic. Had to go back to the 20mgs of Abilify that I was on. However, we are all so different. It might work for you to be on
Lamictal without any other meds. The fewer the better!!

I am taking Lamictal, Lithium and Prozac. I am working up to a full dose of Lamictal. Am at 50 mg and this weekend go up to 75 mg. it is a slow process. I used to take 600mg Lithium. My doc was going to consider dropping Lithium after I built up to therapeutic dose of Lamictal. Well, being the impatient, hard-headed fool that I am, I dropped my evening dose of Lithium. So now I am taking 300 mg Lithium a day, plus Lamictal and Prozac. Anyway, to answer your question, I have not had any issues with Prozac and the other drugs. My doc said some antidepressants with Lithium or Lamictal can cause you to go manic, but since each person is different, he often tries and evaluates carefully. If your doc wants to try it, I would. He will probably give you a low dose of antidepressant to start and tilt rate up as necessary to help with depression or OCD. Good luck!
