Quetiapine, titrating up lamotragine, coming off depakote plus pain medz for migraine and spine problems. Joined up today, for sake of brevity let's say I've been taking depakote on and off for ten years and the quetiapine for about six months now. Migraine and pains meds for over ten years too. Following unsuccessful surgery last month a neurologist prescribed lamotragine which my psych has agreed to titrating up on alternate days with depakote.

Rapid cycling bipolar and the quetiapine has stopped the voices and hallucinations, which is great but have also gained a LOT of weight which isnt. Suicidal attempts stopped and suicidal thoughts managable - just -which I put down to the quetiapine. Heard great things about lamotragine and hope that after titrating to therapeutic level I can stop the depakote and hopefully the pain meds.

However, since taking quetiapine I am exhausted. No matter how early I go to bed or how much coffee I drink am like a zombie all day. Am forgetting everything, pin numbers, phone numbers, names and once I forgot which door was the one where I lived. My heart hurts, not general chest pains but heart palpitations and pain. My stomach hurts a lot too, which isnt surprising despite the proton pump inhibitors.

No doctor has ordered any blood tests and I am concerned how all these medz might affect me. As I write my heart is pounding, blurry vision, pins and needles in both arms plus the usual stomach pain, exhaustion and pounding migraine.

So, mental health and stability vs physical health? Should I ask for blood tests? Or any other tests?

Any advice would be gratefully received. Am in a lot of pain, physically and have been in a deep depressive phase for two weeks now. I have enough medication to take out the whole street, dont want to hurt myself again but am finding it all a bit much and am concerned I might "make a mistake".

I have a love hate relationship with Seroquel. I always seem to be tired even though I take only a small dose for sleep. Maybe it is something else.

Like you, my pdoc has never tested my blood work for anything. Now after 6 years of taking Abilify, I have metabolic syndrome. No one seems to notice a cause and effect. I will have to speak up.

Could your stomach issues come from the ibuprofen? My father was hospitalized for a bleeding ulcer caused by it, so watch out.

As for your question about physical health vs. mental health, my husband would answer mental health is more important. Without meds I am not me, and I put him through hell for years before being diagnosed. He says that even if he meds make me demented in old age, it is better that I am myself now. Plus, without meds, I would probably have committed suicide by now, and possibly would have been homicidal. That was my goal before being medicated, to kill my husband and myself. Remember, bipolar only gets worse as you age if you are not treated.

I am going to ask my primary about blood work. Don't be afraid to ask yours.
