I am 45 and find that I am having an increasingly bad time with PMDD and cramps. I feel like my hormones are going to kill me at times.
I went to a university hospital for help and they would not even test my hormones - just wanted to put me on Prozac, which I have tried to no avail. (I also have developed a mistrust of SSRI's over the years.)
My theory is is that I have been on meds for so long that my liver is probably sluggish and is not processing and eliminating the excess hormones. I would like someone to test my hormones when I am two days prior to my period and see if anything like this could be the case.
I am turning into a real freak and causing problems in my relationships with others and feel suicidal and just generally awful - zero energy, extremely depressed and anxious at the same time. I have tried all sorts of herbs and only so many help just a bit for all I know.
I wanted to know if anyone has gone to either a gyn. or endocrinologist to see if something can be done about any imbalance. Or maybe some of us are just more sensitive to general hormonal changes?
I was told I am not in perimenopause because I still have a fairly regular period. I am also in a lot more pain with cramps and nausea. They just wanted to send me to a mood clinic and I already have a psychiatrist and have been around the block a number of times with various meds and I am just getting to the point where I feel nothing is working.
I try for dietary changes but get intense cravings for sweets, which I let myself have here and there. I am working on the caffeine thing because I know that does not help. I also have Fibro and chronic fatigue and so I rely on it for energy just to get my part-time work done. But I am working on it.
So I want to know if any of you have found help for this from either a psych or a gyn, etc. and what they found out or did not find out. Anything working?
