I am Bipolar 2 with PMDD and I am taking yasmin for the PMDD for 2 months now and I do not know it I can say it has helped. I am more concerned with the negative effects hormones can have on my body long term. I am supposed to try Yasmin for a while and if it gives me good results then we can look at surgery possibly to remove my remaining ovary to help reduce these problems. Has anyone had their ovaries removed to help stop PMDD. Mine is so severe I become suicidal and psychotic. I dont know what to do anymore because my Psych doc is just not helpful My gyn is more helpful in this area.

Current medications as of 01-03-2013
01-02-2013 - Present: Abilify, 2.5mg. nightly
01-02-2013 - Present: Celexa, 40 mg. nightly
01-02-2013 - Present: Ocella/Yasmin, 3mg. daily

I feel your pain -- My PMDD was so sever that I ended up with a full hysterectomy in hopes of finding some relief. The LITTLE BIT of relief I have found came 3 years after my hysterectomy when I finally found a doctor that shared my belief that quality of life was of more importance to me than quantity. I needed to be a wife and a mother. Once I started premarin, I saw some relief. I know that I have a higher risk of cancer and blah, blah, blah -- but to me, the benefit out weighed the risk. I was recently Dx with ADHD and I am searching for the correct medication. So many symptoms can be symptoms of the other so it is very confusing.

All of this to say -- I would NOT have done the hysterectomy knowing what I know now. I would have taken the steps that one would take during natural menopause with HRT. The bio identical and BCP work for some, for me they did not. I wasted 3 years worrying about the possibility of breast cancer when honestly, I think a breast cancer Dx would have been easier. Good luck.
